We are excited to announce that registration for the 3rd OECD Meeting of Mining Regions and Cities in Skellefteå, Sweden on 12th – 13thJune, 2019 is now open.

The meeting in Skellefteå will have a special focus on the transition to the green economy, and innovative ways to attract, retain and develop a skilled workforce. Participants will also have an opportunity to learn about leading practices related to mining and regional development in the Arctic. We are particularly pleased to host a pre-conference workshop on improving quality of life outcomes for mining regions and cities on 11th June in partnership with the Mining_and_Metallurgy_Regions_of_the_EU (MIREU).
Please find a preliminary agenda here
The Meeting is part of an OECD activity to enable regions and cities with a specialization in mining and extractive industries to:
  • Develop global guidance and evidence on regional development policies for industry, national and sub-national governments, and non-government organisations to cooperate on addressing shared challenges
  • Produce case studies and tools that provide recommendations and support for regions and cities to implement better regional development policies
  • Develop a global platform for mining regions and cities through events and peer-review that enables knowledge sharing, advocacy and dialogue between public/private sectors and local communities on better policies
We look forward to welcoming you to this important event and to working together to better address the challenges and opportunities faced by mining regions and cities. Please feel free to forward this message to other people and organisations who you think would be interested in this event.
